Samson and Delilah

A Modern Take on Samson and Delilah

This piece is an Acrylic painting on 24" by 30" gallery wrap canvas depicting a modern day version of Samson and Delilah, who can be found in the Old Testament book of Judges.

This story serves as a warning that we are created for a purpose and have talents and abilities that are geared specifically to the challenges we face in life. If, like Samson, you let earthly beauty distract you, the results can be detrimental to your well being.

This composition is related to the Mary and Martha piece I posted before and shares some elements, but with a twist. Most notably, is that my rendering of these figures was handled with greater precision and realism than the previous piece.

There is a heaviness to Samson's passion. He is immersed in the beauty of a single rose and does not notice the imminent threat to all he has been blessed with. Delilah herself, is a bit paranoid and is looking over her shoulder.

The Lady Waits

Photobucket

Today's entry is a pastel figure study rendered in cream, gray and black in a sort of fashion illustration type of style. The model was a pleasure to work with because of her vast experience and professional attitude.

I wanted her to have a classic elegant lady look and am especially pleased with the Marilyn Monroe type eyes I gave her.
