Atlantis

Sometimes I make pieces that are difficult to explain. You're probably wondering why these good people are all nude. This painting was inspired by Hellenistic Greek art and that it depicts the fall of the lost city of Atlantis.

There's a lot going on here so I'll let you take it in for yourself. I apologize for the horrible scan of this.

Also, here is an earlier version of the same piece that I made with earth tones and a different rendering technique.

Cats and Robots- I Will Destroy You

Yes, I did finally make another installment of the cats and robots series. I'm proud of how this turned out, because it definitely had some composition issues at first. I made some changes: originally, the cat was on the counter with the robot hissing at it, but the cat peeking over the edge works so much better. I then back-lit the figures to ad another layer of mystery to the happenings.

This piece also features some experiments with background elements. I actually just inserted some shapes that would literally point at the things I wanted the viewer to focus on.

Of course, from a subject matter perspective this reflects the mistrust of technology that society has. We're interested in it, but we're also scared of it.

That's it for today.

Mary and Martha

Photobucket

Biblical Art

I'm excited about posting this today because it is some truly new art. This is a commission I did that shows the Biblical sisters, Mary and Martha, in a modern setting.

I'm pleased with this piece and its design and color scheme. I will let the viewer decide which sister is which. If you are burning to know, you can email me at dffinley@gmail.com and I'll be glad to tell you.

That's it for today. I'll try to post the follow up to this soon.
