Blood on my Hands

This piece was made for an assignment. The meaning is quite personal, however, I will say it doesn't necessarily reflect my current state of mind. It does depict an emotion that was surging through me a few months ago: Guilt. I won't elaborate except to say that in this case, I had nothing to feel guilty about.

A few posts ago I made an entry about trees and posted my digital mock-up for what I wanted this piece to look like. This finished one is all traditional, done with oil pastel overlayed with black china marker. I'm pleased with the result, although I do feel like the foot on the tree is a bit hard to read. I probably should have placed that differently so it was not framed completely. Oh well, such is life. I am happy with the whited silhouettes of the two lovers in the upper left. So, enough of my yabbering... Here's the picture.

Angels of War

I just woke up from a horrible nightmare and I need to focus on other things.

I've been drawing some angels again, which happens to be one of my favorite subjects to draw. I really have no idea what real angels look like, but the Renaissance would have you believe they are sheet wearing wusses. Not so, says I, based on the reading I've done, they are fearsome to behold. And, this begs the question: Isn't God wonderful? He commands these powerful spiritual warriors to protect us and give us messages. We fight alongside these powerful allies. I just marvel at all of that.

Today, I submit two of these drawings for your perusal. The first was a doodle exploring hard angles with a large flat sharpie marker point.

The second picture was executed in oil pastel and again there was an emphasis on challenging the stereotype.

Also, I figured I'd throw in two funny faces as a bonus. Please enjoy my wacky ways:

Trees make me think

I decided to post a nice conservative pic for your viewing pleasure today. I did this for a friend who likes landscapes. This pic shows my fascination with color because if you were there in person looking at the same thing I was looking at, nothing there was red or orange. But, i thought it needed some orange.....then blue.......then red and well, you have what we see here. Maybe I just missed seeing autumn this year since I'm in Florida and it's in the seventies today.

This was done with watercolor and enhanced slightly with some pastel work. It felt good to get over the hump and get something done.

The next is all digital and is a concept for my death and rebirth series. It also deals with trees, but you can't tell by looking at it now. I won't spoil it though because it's a surprise. I did this in Corel Painter X and finished it in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Thanks for looking. I have some angel pics I need to scan in so I hope to post those soon.

Happy belated Halloween!

I thought I'd update since it's been a while. This pic is one I'm working on for my illustration class. I'll post the final version here soon. It was done completely in Adobe Illustrator. Yes, it is sort of a pic of the devil, but it's sort of not. Let's just say imagination is at play. This is just a preview of the finished version.

For those of you keeping tabs on my well being: I am well and adjusting to being single as best as I could hope for. I've been praying a lot and hanging with some awesome friends, plus having some great phone conversations. I'm discovering a lot of things about myself and feel confident and happy about the future ahead.
