A Not So Relaxing Soak in the Tub
Here's a doodle I sort of fleshed out because some old friends of mine really like the character. He's the Bad Day Man: a guy who always has something go wrong in his day to day living. I probably could have done more, but I've been focusing on some other art projects now that school has started back again. I like the color palette here, though.

You know on second thought... why don't you just keep your shorts on?
My title today makes sense if you were present when today's entry was drawn. Otherwise, it's a puzzler. It involves some bad experiences with naked models and faulty plumbing. This particular model in the drawing was not the one with the problem.
I played around with oil pastels again on an experimental surface of doodled on notebook paper, masking tape, on bristol board. I was trying to capture reflected color and overall structure and anatomy.

A Sequential for the Ladies
That's right ladies! Today's post is about love, or what the Italian folks like to call Amore.
The entry is a sequential piece from my comic class about a young boy attempting to woo the affection of his lady friend. Of course, he gets a bit over excited and tries way too hard. Let's see what wacky, yet romantic shenanigans play out!

This is done in pencil on bristol. There is dialog, but I left it out of the piece as it was not part of the assignment to letter them. My objective was to portray a conversation and an event, while attempting to convey what was going on without the benefit of words. It was a storytelling exercise.

The Disturbing Period - Just the Art
The title of this thread is just a little joke that a friend of mine shared with me about some of my work that had a less cheerful look. I kind of thought today's piece really personified that mindset, so I made it today's blog entry title.
My work today is an oil pastel drawing done from a live model. As I drew, I tried to concentrate on portraying the essence of his skeletal and muscle structure, while also focusing the way color reflected against his skin. I just kind of turned both of those ideas up a few notches.
My inspirations for this experiment come from the work of Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse. It's one of my favorite pieces I've done in the last year.

More Doodles For You
Todays post is just a few pages of doodles that I did when I was brainstorming the look of characters for my mad scientist and robot story I did for my comic class. The pimp robot doodle ended up making the grade as the focus of my humor for the pages I drew. There is also a monkey character I was going to add in to assist the scientist, but I cut him out for the sake of simplicity.
I think I'll pretty well let the rest speak for themselves.

Rock Star!
Today's post is a self portrait. Yay!
This is one that I think turned out pretty well. Our assignment was to present ourselves as other people. I figured that something I always thought about, but never did was become a mega rock star. However, since I'm nearly thirty and I'm surrounded at school by people who are five to ten years younger than me, I thought I'd be one of those rockers whose career was in the sunset phase. Here I am, a venerable rock star, about to go on stage and perform for a small and apathetic crowd.
The pic was done on Bristol with oil pastel and it's one of those pictures that seemed to just click. What I mean by that is that it came out exactly how I planed without throwing me any curve balls. I just sat down and drew it. That rarely happens in the art world except with things you draw repeatedly.

I hope you enjoy my latest entry. Now that school's starting again, I'll try to post more of my work. After a somewhat lazy summer, it's time to get back on the buggy and start galloping. I'm going to try to work on a critical breakdown and process piece soon as well. Thanks for looking!

And We're BACK!
Sorry it's been so long since my last post.
Today's entry is a goodie in my opinion. It's about climate change and man's effect on the environment. I picked penguins as the figure focus because they've been getting so much attention in the media..
The piece is a collage with oil paint bar drawings on canvas. I then cut the canvas into the composition you see here and mounted it on illustration board.

It feels good to post again. I need to post some other pieces I have waiting in the wings. Have a good one!
