My Last Resort Pages

I'm gonna go ahead and post these pages here. I can't stress enough how gratifying it was to make this, despite the tremendous challenges of inking this digitally. Just black and white for now, but I hope to color it soon. Here are the pages:

I'm moving, but I'll try to get to these when I can. I have some other projects in the works right now that I'm cooking up now that school is out.

A Sneak Peek

For those of you close to me, it will come as not surprise to you that I type this whilst fighting off an oncoming coma. I have been laboring on a project of my own design, for my final in class, that is really doing me in. However, I see the horizon ahead and behold, there is the finish line!

Today's post is a sneak preview of that same project. Here, I will unveil the very first panel of "Finnegan's Last Resort"

I can't say enough that, despite the difficulty of working with the pen tool in Illustrator to make this entire story, I've really enjoyed finally putting these characters into a story. Illustration-wise, I feel this is some of my best work.

The Last Resort Project

I'm still working my trousers off to get my finals done for my class. Most of the stuff is due Wednesday. As some of you know, I've been working on a group of characters for a graphic novel called, Finnegan's Last Resort for a few years now. The project has unfortunately, for the most part, been in the conceptual phase for these years. However, I've recently began a comic short that is about five pages long, with these characters and the place they live.

In today's post, I'll show you some of the backgrounds I've been working on to flesh things out. I pulled these from the "inks" I've been doing in Adobe Illustrator and Flash with both mouse clicking and a wacom tablet.

Next up, just to give you some characters for those who yawn at scenery. I wanted to do some concept art for my redesign of Finnegan and Carl, my two main characters for this story. This one was done with a wacom tablet in Corel Painter X. They are purposely crude, by the way.

That's it for today. I'll post the final versions of these characters as well as my pages from the final project before long. I've also got some other stuff I still need to scan in and show you all.

Hope it's worth the wait

I won't go into this too much because I'm still running a fever off and on, still feeling sick, and still working my buns off on my final project for my comics class.

As promised, this is the final watercolor version of my Wind in the Willows piece. This is the first piece I've ever completed using watercolors so it marks a bit of a crossroads for me. The watercolors forced me to be really patient with the piece and take my time. It took me a few weeks to do it along with the other pieces I was working on.

A taste of what's to come

This post is gonna serve as a little bit of a teaser for my next post. I finally got around to scanning in one of my better illustration pieces- a scene from The Wind in the Willows. First, I will show you my rough drafts where I was trying to get a look and feel for the characters. The drawings are done with brush pen on regular old sketchbook paper.

Next post will show you the finished version in all of its magnificent watercolor glory.

In other news, I'm feeling like a bit of a butthole lately because I've been stubborn about seeing Pirates of the Caribbean with heart-throbby Johnny Depp and the ever popular Orlando Bloom.
Unlike most everyone else I talk to, I thought the second Pirates movie was a heaping mouthful of poop. But here's the kicker.....I could go see the new movie for free. After all, I do like the character of Jack Sparrow and his crew even if the plot and script of the movie is not my cup of tea. Still, it might be worse than "Dead Man's Chest" and I'd hate to sit in the theater when I could be catching up on my drawing.

It's ALIVE!!!!

I'm pleased as punch to be making this update today, because I've done so few sequential art pieces that I'm actually proud of. This one was for an assignment in my comic art class about a robot and a mad scientist. I'd say more, but I want to see if the story communicates on its own.

This piece was penciled on Bristol, then inked with a brush mostly with some micro pens used on the finer lines
